Your child’s oral health is important to us! We will help care for their teeth by recommending a good oral hygiene routine and healthy diet. We may also recommend placing sealants on your child’s teeth, since cavities can still develop due to the tricky grooves in their teeth. An easy way to protect these teeth from decay is by using dental sealants!
Think of sealants as a protective coating for your child’s teeth. When you wear a raincoat, your clothes are protected from getting wet. Sealants will shield teeth from food particles and bacteria! They're made of a special plastic resin that fills in the grooves on the biting surface of teeth – mainly the molars – so plaque and tartar will not build.
The process of applying sealants is easy, fast and pain-free. The first step will be cleaning the teeth to rid them of any plaque. The sealant is painted over the tooth enamel and hardens, providing protection. If the sealant ever cracks or chips, we will be able to repair or replace it. We will assess the health of the tooth and sealant during routine examinations.
We think dental sealants are a wonderful preventive measure for your child’s teeth, particularly their permanent molars. Here are some benefits of sealants:
